This first drawing I wanted to challenge the word plant and do something quite abstract/tenuous relating to the word.
I noticed that with white board markers on the sketchbook paper I was using that the colours bleed together and blend very nicely. I decided to experiment with a landscape I can see from my flat which looks a bit like a power plant.
I'd been experimenting recently with geometric shapes so I wanted to apply it to something odd. You never get straight lines in nature so i decided to raw a geometric styles orchid.
I started to draw from life in a cafe I had limited materials on me so I decided to do all the colouring with fine liners. I really liked the effect it created its definitely a style I want to explore further.
This drawing I tried to do without any outlines using ink. Inks a really effective shading tool which I found gave a much nicer depth than
Whilst watching the TV show Avatar they used scrolls with similar illustrations to teach them martial arts. I decided to do one from the tai chi I'd done that week where a lot of the focus is keeping your feet planted to the ground.
I wanted to work more with negative space and try and use the white of the page more. Here I wanted to portray the idea of planting the seeds of knowledge in someones mind. I was really happy with they way this came out both because of the ideas behind the image and the contrast in colour.
I thought it would be a good challenge to draw something with odd perspective and lighting. I really like when you look up into trees and the tree truck is virtually slighted but light shines through the leaves. I used inks to try and capture this, I think I could have captured the light a bit better.
After going to thought bubble event and seeing a large number of illustrators I was inspired to do a different more illustartive/comic style of drawing. A lot of comics Id seen that I thought were really effect only used one colour to shade with. I tried to replicate that doing a power plant worker. I really like the results this produced its a little scrappy but i want to use this more in the future.
